Multiple exposure in 1930s shin jidai eiga

"The 1930s are often referred to as 'the first golden age' of Japanese cinema - the 1950s being the second one. The proliferation of productions and technical and stylistic innovations took place in an environment, that was as fertile as it was charged, politically and culturally. In my talk, I will consider the challenges and opportunities faced by the people working in the industry along various case studies, including the subversions of the time-honored genre of period films (jidai eiga)."
